The Petaluma and Santa Rosa Railroad was formed in 1903. W. L. Holman Car Company of San Francisco built a great deal of the rolling stock for the railroad. The P & S R used only even numbers for their boxcars, while flats were odd numbered, so Boxcar #2 is likely the first boxcar bought for the road. We are currently searching records to find more details about this car. What we already know is: it was set up in the town of Bodega Bay as a home, it but had been vacant for many years before the County of Sonoma condemned the structure. Director Jeff Millerick had kept in contact with the owner, requesting donation, rather than demolition. When the county stepped in the owner contacted Jeff and arrangements were made to demo the extra parts and move the car body to the Petaluma Restoration Yard. Director Steve Atnip has documented the boxcar before and during its rescue as shown it the pictures section, which along with his video show the efforts of our team to bring this car home to Petaluma. Directors Mike Manson and Steve Atnip secured the necessary permits for the demo, Phil Joy House Moving did the actual transfer of the car to Petaluma.

The car is now in Petaluma and will undergo a through inspection and restoration evaluation.

We have spent money from the General Fund to save this car from destruction. A separate fund has been established to help pay back this original loan and to begin the restoration/preservation process.
